If you are looking to buy live rock for your coral reef aquarium, then you have come to the right place!
We stock up to 3 tonnes of Indonesian marine live rock, 2 tonnes of which is cured and ready for sale.
For those of you who haven't seen Indonesian rock before, it's very similar to the rock imported from Fiji and Tonga. However, Indonesian rock tends to be more porous.
How does marine live rock work?
The quality of all live rock is determined by age and porosity. The outer light baring area is inhabited by photophilous organisms and macro micro algae, where as the unlit outer area supports photophobic life such as sponge, tunicates and crustaceans. Towards the core, numerous bacterial colonies thrive, whilst the core itself is home to nitrate reducing anaerobic bacteria that flourish in the dark, low oxygen environment.
This complex array of organisms provide marine live rock with unique filtration capabilities and when used in the correct quantity (half a kilo per gallon minimum) will delicately balance all types of marine ecosystem, providing the finest filtration money can buy.
When live rock arrives it is unpacked, cleaned and placed in huge salt water vats where a surface area die off process takes place. The rock completes the nitrogen cycle, replenishing the outer layers destroyed by transportation. This curing process can take up to five weeks.
